Welcome from Jason Moran<br />
Much like the handshake on the cover, jazz has always<br />
been about greetings. From the first notes of a concert,<br />
the greetings are for the artists as well as the audience.<br />
Some handshakes are firm, some soft, but from those<br />
introductions, much is understood.<br />
I’m thrilled to share the 2016–2017 Kennedy Center Jazz<br />
season with you. We continue to showcase the finest<br />
musicians through a diverse collection of performances.<br />
While we celebrate saxophonist Jimmy Heath as he<br />
enters his 90th year, we also celebrate the newest<br />
arrivals on the jazz scene within the Betty Carter’s Jazz<br />
Ahead program and the Discovery Artists in the KC Jazz<br />
Club. Hopefully you will be as thrilled as I am about the<br />
