World War II veteran Paul Hilliard served as a<br />
radioman/gunner in SBD Dauntless bombers<br />
in the Pacific Theater. While stationed in the<br />
Philippines, the SBDs operated as “airborne<br />
artillery” for Gen. Walter Krueger’s Sixth Army.<br />
The Dauntless crews would dive bomb and strafe<br />
targets assigned by the army units attacking the<br />
Japanese on the ground. In this photo, Hilliard,<br />
who is also a CAF Colonel member was reunited<br />
