Student Educational Services bolsters support for at-risk students
By Tim Olsen
At first glance, “helping students help
themselves” may sound like little more than a
quaint cliché. For Student Educational Services,
however, it’s a mission-based concept embedded
in the services provided to Marquette students —
now more so than ever with a recent expansion
of services.
“Not all students who seek tutoring are
struggling students, if you look at GPA,” said
Anne Deahl, associate vice provost for academic
support programs and retention. “Many are
doing very well, but part of the reason they’re
doing well is that they seek help and learn skills
to help themselves. We don’t do it for them, but
teach them the skills to do it.”
