Student Educational Services bolsters support for at-risk students<br />

At first glance, “helping students help<br />
themselves” may sound like little more than a<br />
quaint cliché. For Student Educational Services,<br />
however, it’s a mission-based concept embedded<br />
in the services provided to Marquette students —<br />
now more so than ever with a recent expansion<br />
of services.<br />
“Not all students who seek tutoring are<br />
struggling students, if you look at GPA,” said<br />
Anne Deahl, associate vice provost for academic<br />
support programs and retention. “Many are<br />
doing very well, but part of the reason they’re<br />
doing well is that they seek help and learn skills<br />
to help themselves. We don’t do it for them, but<br />
teach them the skills to do it.”<br />
