THE WORLD BANK GROUP
S
ince its creation in 1993 as the first independent accountability mech-
anism at an international financial institution, the Inspection Panel has
been integral to the work of the World Bank. Its investigations into the
concerns of communities that believe they have been harmed by World
Bank projects allow us to learn from our mistakes and to turn shortcomings into
better outcomes as we work toward our ambitious goals of ending extreme
poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity.
In the past year, the Inspection Panel has taken several steps to maintain
and to improve accountability at the World Bank and assist us in helping our
