Welcome to a special anniversary<br />
edition of TN. As you delve into the<br />
pages of this issue, you’ll discover why<br />
we’re so proud of our 100 years of service<br />
to Texans.<br />
As to be expected for an agency that’s<br />
lasted a century, we’ve changed a lot from<br />
our humble beginnings.<br />
When the department began in<br />
1917, our first employees shared office<br />
space in the Capitol with several other<br />
agencies. At that time, the building was<br />
more than the home of the Legislature<br />
and governor, it was where the bulk of<br />
state work was conducted. But it didn’t<br />
take long before the business of running<br />
a state government was more than the<br />
