MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT<br />
Dear Readers:<br />
Research is a vital part of the learning process for many students at Texas<br />
A&M-Kingsville. We strive to provide meaningful research and service op-<br />
portunities at both the graduate and undergraduate level, and we have been<br />
very successful thanks to the efforts of our faculty. In fact, within the Texas<br />
A&M University System, we rank second (behind Texas A&M University) in<br />
terms of research expenditures.<br />
In this issue of Javelina Today, we focus on the Title<br />
V grant we received and how we have strengthened<br />
our research infrastructure with this important fed-<br />
