Car sales accelerate<br />
ahead in November<br />

NEW car registrations rose<br />
57.6 per cent in November,<br />
the fifth successive month of<br />
growth in 2009, according to<br />
data published by the SMMT.<br />
The figures show 158,082<br />
cars were sold over the course<br />
of the month, but the year-<br />
on-year increase is set against<br />
a weak performance in<br />
November 2008.<br />
Year-to-date sales, propped<br />
up by the scrappage scheme,<br />
were still down 8.8 per cent<br />
to 1,844,063 and full year<br />
