Patients presenting with acute decompensated heart
failure (ADHF) may have left ventricular heart failure
with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) or heart failure
with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Differentiation
between the two is an important initial step in the clinical
management of patients with ADHF because diagnostic
and therapeutic strategies differ for these two groups of
