More than 4,000 people will die on Texas
roadways this year. That's an average of
12 deaths per day! These deaths are mothers,
fathers, daughters, and sons who will be
missed by their loved ones this holiday season.
The numbers continue to be sobering, they are
unacceptable, and they demand more action on
everyone's part. We haven't seen a single deathless
day on Texas roads since Nov. 7, 2000. Last year, 4,495
people died on one of our roads — the most since 1981
— which was before safety belt laws were first enacted.
