Introduction
Singapore, 2005. Olympics president Jacques Rogge is about to announce the
location of the 2012 Games. He hesitates, then pronounces one word - “London”.
You all know what happened next,
but did you know Cardiff University
had a hand in that historic decision?
The London bid pledged to use the
“eco-footprint” approach developed
for sports events like the FA Cup by
our Centre for Business, Relationships,
Accountability, Sustainability and
Society (BRASS). Dr Andrea Collins of
BRASS then joined the carbon footprint
planning team for last year’s Games –
now recognised as the most sustainable
ever held.
We don’t help successful Olympic
bids every day, but our research does
improve daily lives in almost every way
