Building and rehabilitating physical infrastructure is central to the<br />
Network's efforts to improve rural livelihoods. Before they can begin<br />
to increase their income-generating activities, people need to access<br />
basic necessities such as sustainable energy and clean water. In the<br />
mountainous regions of nor thern Pakistan, where many communities<br />
are far removed from the electricity grid, the Foundation has pioneered<br />
and helped implement micro-hydroelectric plants which generate<br />
enough power to light an entire village.The projects are implemented,<br />
maintained and managed by the communities themselves.
