MANAGING
DVT
WHAT IS DVT?
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a medical condition that occurs
when a blood clot forms in a deep vein. DVT clots most often
develop in the lower leg, thigh, or pelvis; in some instances, they
can also occur in the arm. A Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)
occurs when a DVT breaks free and becomes a Pulmonary
Embolism (PE).
• 1/3 of people (33%) with DVT/PE will have
a recurrence within 10 years.1
• As many as 900,000 people are affected
(>1 per 1,000) each year in the United States.1
DVT is often undiagnosed and can lead to serious illness, disability,
and in some cases, death. That’s why it is important to be aware of
risks and prevention.
The good news is that DVT is preventable and treatable if
discovered early.
