Embley vows to<br />
fight further cuts<br />

Lloyd Embley told staff he would fight<br />
job cuts “tooth and nail” after his shock<br />
promotion to editor of the Mirror titles.<br />
Embley addressed staff at around<br />
11.30am yesterday morning just over an<br />
hour after Daily Mirror editor Richard<br />
Wallace and Sunday Mirror editor Tina<br />
Weaver left the company with immediate<br />
ef fect.<br />
He spoke to staff from both titles while<br />
standing on a desk on the Daily Mirror<br />
backbench, reading from what appeared<br />
to be a pre-prepared speech.<br />
Echoing the words of Wallace in his<br />
departing email to Mirror staff, Embley<br />
said the Mirror titles were two of the<br />
best newspapers in the world – but<br />
warned journalists they were living<br />
