IRS Moves to Require CPAs<br />
to Reregister PTINs, Pay Fee<br />

NEW YORK—If recently proposed IRS<br />
regulations are adopted, CPAs will be<br />
required to register and pay a “modest” fee<br />
to have their existing preparer tax identifi-<br />
cation numbers (PTINs) reissued as a part<br />
of the IRS's efforts to regulate the tax<br />
preparation industry, IRS spokesperson<br />
