my father was one of the founders of Katahdin
Cedar Log Homes in 1973. When he hired me in
1977, I became his eighth employee.
In those days, we did much of the hard work of turning
northern white cedar logs into log homes by hand.
The work kept us warm in winter, and we’d work up
a good sweat in summer. But I got to know the business
of manufacturing log homes from the inside out, log
by log and piece by piece. The year I started, we
manufactured just two homes.
We were proud of those two homes. We knew they
were destined to be good, solid, well-made homes for
people who would love them, because we made them
to be the very best they could be.
These days, we’re a lot bigger than we used to be.
