Irving Berlin wrote the song “White<br />
Christmas” for the 1942 film Holiday<br />
Inn. Starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire<br />
the film focuses on Crosby’s character, a<br />
showman who retires from the business<br />
and retreats to a New England farm after<br />
being dumped by his girlfriend. Crosby’s<br />
idea is to turn the farm into an inn open<br />
only on holidays—a song for every holiday<br />
and a holiday for every song. Former<br />
song-and-dance partner Astaire shows up<br />
with a scheme to make a movie at the farm<br />
to showcase a newfound talent played by<br />
Marjorie Reynolds.<br />
