The Sun stands by<br />
`plebgate' claims<br />

The Sun has stood by its Andrew Mitchell<br />
`plebgate' story in its defence to the<br />
former chief whip's £150,000 libel claim.<br />
MP Mitchell is suing the newspaper for<br />
a story last September claiming he had<br />
called police officers outside Downing<br />
Street “fucking plebs”.<br />
The story eventually led to Mitchell<br />
standing down as chief whip.<br />
Mitchell is also seeking an injunction to<br />
prevent The Sun from publishing further<br />
material claimed to be defamatory.<br />
He has denied the paper's “serious<br />
and offensive” allegation, which he has<br />
claimed was written in a way to present<br />
him as “inexorably guilty”.<br />
Mitchell claimed the newspaper knew<br />
