Nine years after leaving the UK, former
Sunday Herald editor Andrew Jaspan
has returned with an ambitious scheme
to turn 10,000 academics into an army of
specialist contributors.
The Conversation launched in Australia
two years ago and already claims to be the
number one independent news website
Down Under.
Now a team of eight editors – headed up
by former Guardian news editor Stephen
Kahn – are looking to repeat the site's
success in the UK.
Based at City University in London,
the site has secured funding of £500,000
mainly from the universities sector.
It is not for profit and makes its content
freely available to commercial media
