A patient
in cardiac arrest
Philips Lumify case study
A 63 year-old male with a history of diabetes was found
slumped over at work. Coworkers, assuming this was another
one of the patient’s usual diabetic emergencies, left the patient
alone and called EMS. The EMS team responded promptly.
EMS found the patient apneic, cyanotic, and pulseless,
and initiated standard ACLS protocol. The patient was
endotracheally intubated and was noted to be in asystole
on initial rhythm check. Two amps of epinephrine were
given. CPR was continued en route to my emergency
department (ED); five minutes ETA on call-in.
