Introduction
Oral mucositis (OM) is caused by the direct toxic effect of
chemotherapy and radiation therapy on the oral epithelium,
which in turn may lead to injury and disruption of the oral
mucosal barrier in cancer patients.1 Factors contributing to
disruption of the oral barrier and the onset of OM include
the type of agents used, use of oral preventive measures
and the individual patient’s response.1,2
